Grandfather
7 x 3 x 4 cm
Polymer Clay
Reconnecting with my past, my work has most recently focused on the expression of my heritage as an Iraqi-Canadian. This piece is my paternal grandfather, the first in a series of mini busts I hope to create of all my grand parents.
Born in Jordan, my family immigrated to Canada when I was 10. My childhood was divided between the cities of Toronto and Amman. Although I consider Toronto home, my experience growing up is best summed up by Ijeoma Umebinyuo:
So, here you are
too foreign for home
too foreign for here.
Never enough for both.
